BC NDP web people didn’t expect Dana Larsen to win

I’m a bit of a geek. Whenever there’s a change in government or party leadership I go to their website to see how quickly the webmasters make the change.

Yesterday the BC NDP elected Vancouver-Kingsway MLA Adrian Dix as party leader. When I visited bcndp.ca I was pleased to see that they quickly put an image on their front page announcing the new leader.

Here’s what the page looks like:

I viewed the image and the link was “http://www.bcndp.ca/files/DixHomepage.png”

Just out of random curiosity I thought I’d type in the names of other leadership candidates to see if there was an image for them and this is what I got:

John Horgan NDP Leader

Mike Farnworth NDP Leader

Dana Larsen did not have a leadership victory image (http://www.bcndp.ca/files/LarsenHomepage.png)

I assume their web design people weren’t sure who was going to win so they made sure to create images for Farnworth and Horgan. They didn’t, however, create an image for Larsen.

In the end it was a close race. On the third ballot Dix received 9,772 votes compared to 9,095 for Port Coquitlam MLA Mike Farnworth.  Cannabis legalization activist Dana Larsen lost on the first round and Malahat-Juan de Fuca MLA John Horgan on the second.

Perhaps the NDP web people didn’t think Larsen could win or maybe they created these images after the first ballot when they were down to three names. Either way, it’s a randomly fun insight into website stuff!
