Canadian Election sign wars
Well, here in Canada it’s election time and one of my favourite things about the election are those election lawn signs. It’s a great opportunity to see where your neighbours stand. I live in the riding of Burnaby-Douglas which is currently represented by Bill Siksay of the NDP. The Liberals and Conservatives both view this riding as “up for grabs”, so it garners quite a bit of media attention.
The Liberals, desperate for any shred of relevance in this election, have gone on a lawn side blitz, with little regard to who and where their signs go.
These Liberal signs are in front of an unoccupied house that’s slated for demolition. I guess nobody told Bill Cunningham that rotting wood can’t vote.
Hmm… now that was interesting. One house, two signs. I guess one of those lions is a Liberal lion!
Liberal signs being “reclaimed” by NDP supporters. I thought this was an innovative and effective campaign technique. Tasteful, yet cutting. I like it. It makes me wonder if the inhabitants of this house are British.
Someone set this Liberal sign on fire!
This Conservative sign, however, was just knocked over. Although I do not support the Conservatives, I expressly condemn defacing election signs. If you don’t like a Conservative or Liberal sign, well, then put up a big orange NDP sign!
It made me feel all warm and tingly inside to see the picture of the burnt Liberal sign. I haven’t seen anything to top that – the best thing I saw was a house with two Cunningham signs, a Siksay sign, and a Leung sign.
I knew some one who took all the election signs he could find and put them on his friend’s yard. The guy had about 100 signs in his yar. It was a very amusing site to behold and I was jealous I wasn’t the one who had masterminded this operation.
Rotten wood can’t vote. ZING!!!!!!!!!!!
DOuble Zing!!!!
Yes, I’ve noticed a few of these myself. I thought I had some good photos on my blog (http://campaignwidow.wordpress.com/) but I can’t quite match your burned or upside-down ones.
