Foster kids in college

I grew up in foster care and when the NDP were in power they made sure foster kids had some support until they were 24. That included funding for university and college as well as an ongoing relationship with your social worker. Really helpful stuff that allowed youth from care to lead functioning adult lives.

Back in 2001 the Liberals were elected to government and promptly slashed programs left right and centre. The program that allowed for youth in care to go to university and college was cut and I had to fund my university with work and enormous student loans.

Anyways, last week the government announced they’d restore funding for that program! So now, youth who age out of the system will have more options.

I made a video about it.
