Sexism begins at McDonald’s

I am one of those very lucky people who lives within a stone’s throw of a bright, beautiful McDonald’s. I go there a lot.

Today I was waiting for my Big Mac when this fat middle aged woman was standing at the counter with her two grandchildren, a boy and a girl. She was helping them decide what happy meal toys to get.

For some reason the toys are grouped to be gender-specific girl or boy toys. The girl toy was a pink princess tiara and the boy toy was a strapping 21 year old swimmer… or some silly truck – I forget which.

Anyways, the grandma asked the girl if she’d rather have a boy’s toy but didn’t offer the girl’s toy to the little boy.

Firstly, why the hell are toys grouped by gender?

Seconldy, why is it so offensive for a boy to play with a girl’s toy but not the other way around? That just reinforces the idea that women are inferior to men.

I am a resident of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada who has blogged here for 20 years. I like to share my thoughts and feelings on my own online space. From 1998 until 2017 I worked as a journalist and I hope to use this website as an archive for all of my stories.

  1. I agree! Down with gender specific toys! I’m wondering where these toys are made and if they are even safe.

P.S That picture horrifies me for some reason.. maybe its the banana shaped jugs!

  2. I am looking at that Ronald Mcdonald with the tits and its looking pretty good. I am that hard up. If my girl friend oissed the bed and liked to spoon it would not phase me. By the way I do not have a girl friend. On the topic of girl and boy toys. Every straight boy plays with Barbies. Me and Isaac played with Barbies all the time. Now Isaac turned out fine. He has a kid and a dog and a house. Me. I have my bus pass.

People are too afraid to give boys gir toys as they think it will magically make some one gay. Or more than likely they feel akward in public watching little johnny play with Barbie. Now as far as something all boys and girls love?

    Superman Rides and Khan.
