Once a week I like to treat myself to those yummy pizza rollers they sell at Pizza Hut. I don’t care what you say… I think they’re yummy. Mmm!
Usually, with a pop, they cost $7.65 but today I was dinged $8.16. This increase is a result of the new Harmonized Sales Tax which combines the [...]

“I want cupcakes!” I demand.
I’m hanging out with my friends Jess, Paul and Michael. We’re walking their dog Buster when I am overcome with an insatiable craving for cupcakes!
There are a few chain stores in Vancouver that are dedicated to selling just that, but they are located several blocks away from where we are.
“I’m not [...]

If you ever need to feel old or irrelevant there’s perhaps no better place to hang out than your local thrift store where items that seemed so marvelous and useful in your youth are unceremoniously stashed between faded Christian books and stained tweed blouses.
The other day I was at the Salvation Army store at West [...]

Throughout the Olympics I’ve really been impressed by the presence of other Canadian provinces and Territories in Vancouver. It’s good to see and feel the presence of the different regions of Canada. It’s a lot more substantial and real than a series of provincial and territorial flags neatly assembled at some public space.
I really think [...]

The other works I noticed this poster near Hastings and Willingdon. It’s since been ripped down and replaced with fireworks adverts so I thought I’d blog about it.
It’s a message from Bill Bennett extolling the virtues of Expo 86. Bennett was the Social Credit premier of British Columbia from 1975 until 1986. I’m too young [...]

I was surfing the web today when I happened upon the site for BC Transit which provices public transit services for communities outside of the Greater Vancouver Area. The BC Transit logo can be seen on buses in nearly every obscure corner of this province. At the moment the logo looks like this:
It’s a little [...]

Back in 2005 my friend Shantel and I used to make tons of videos about everything we could from alcoholic dogs, posessed dolls and jilted would-be lovers.
But, life intervened and we put our filmmaking efforts on hold indefinitely.
Well, I’m pleased to annouce that we’ve reunited! Yesterday we made a brand new video for the first [...]

April 28, 2009 marked the 50th anniversary of British Columbia’s last execution.
Leo Anthony Mantha was a tugboat operator and former sailor. He was gay and wanted to have a long-term relationship with his boyfriend Aaron “Bud” Jenkins. Jenkins tried to break up with him and Mantha lost his shit and stabbed Jenkins to death. He [...]

I was at the Harewood Arms Pub Liquor store in Nanaimo the other day when I saw this, the biggest anti-shoplifting sign I’ve ever encountered:
This is a liquor store in the neighbourhood of my youth. Harewood is an area of south Nanaimo that used to be a separate municipality. It’s got a very strong sense [...]

I was in Nanaimo this weekend visiting friends. I had a wonderful time for most of the trip. Unfortunately, I had the worst restaurant experience of my life. I have this strange phobia of being held somewhere against my will and that’s exactly what happened last night.
SOMEONE decided it’d be a great idea to have [...]
